The table compares five countries in terms of the average salaries, in US dollars, when starting work, after 15 years and maximum salaries.
Overall, it is clear that the highest salaries were earned in Luxembourg, while the maximum salary in Japan was only achieved after 37 years on average.
Starting salaries in Luxembourg averaged $80,000, rising to $119,000 after 15 years. The next highest starting salary was in Denmark at $45,000, however this rose only modestly to $54,000 after 15 years. The starting salaries in Japan, Korea and Australia were significantly lower, increasing after 15 years to $65,000 in Japan and $48,000 in both Korea and Australia.
In Australia and Denmark, the maximum salary was reached after only 9 and 8 years respectively. In contrast, the maximum in Japan of $86,000 was achieved after 37 years, whilst the maximum salary in Korea of $62,000 was only reached after 34 years, less than half the maximum of $132,000 in Luxembourg, achieved after 30 years.
